Economy Talks: Uğur Gürses
On February 14, 2018, Economics Writer Uğur Gürses was the guest of our University’s EU Institute. The “Economy Talks”, which were held with the participation of our Faculty of Economics students, began with a presentation by Hürriyet Newspaper Writer Uğur Gürses, who shared his views on the Turkish and World Economies. In his speech, which began by explaining the dynamics of the 1994 and 2001 crises in Turkey, Uğur Gürses predicted that the decrease in liquidity that has been flowing to developing countries like Turkey for a long time will negatively affect the Turkish economy in the coming period, and that companies will be the most affected by this. In the second part of the speech, Uğur Gürses answered questions from students on topics such as Central Bank Independence, Trust in the Central Bank, Inflation Target, Wealth Fund, Brexit, Cryptocurrencies, Turkey’s Current Account Deficit Problem, Financial Dependence on Foreign Countries, Revision of the Customs Union, High Inflation and Unemployment Problem, and the Effect of Moving Away from the European Anchor on the Economy.
